The Kwara Coding & Digital Literacy Programme has successfully concluded its foundational phase with a statewide assessment designed to evaluate students’ grasp of essential digital skills. This milestone marks a significant step in Kwara State’s mission to build a digitally savvy, future-ready generation.
Out of a target of 7,500 students across 50 public secondary schools in the state’s 16 Local Government Areas (LGAs), a total of 5,603 students have been fully onboarded and trained in digital literacy. The gender distribution reflects 2,604 males (46.5%) and 2,999 females (53.5%) a notable achievement in closing the gender gap in tech education.
Ilorin West LGA emerged as the highest-contributing region with 829 participants, while Ekiti LGA had the lowest enrollment at 173 students. By senatorial breakdown:
Kwara Central: 2,095 students (37.4%)
Kwara North: 1,322 students (23.6%)
Kwara South: 2,186 students (39%)
A total of 35 out of the 50 participating schools spanning all three senatorial districts have completed their digital literacy sessions. Participants demonstrated strong proficiency in basic computer operations, productivity tools, internet usage, and critical thinking. The assessment results affirm the programme’s success in delivering 21st-century digital skills that are essential for academic and career advancement.
The programme now transitions into its next stage the Summer Edition which will focus on hands-on coding, innovation thinking, and real-world problem-solving. This advanced module is designed to inspire students to become creators, not just consumers, of technology positioning them to compete and thrive in the global digital economy.
This progress is a direct outcome of the visionary leadership of the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, whose administration continues to place youth empowerment, digital innovation, and inclusive development at the center of its agenda. His commitment to building digital infrastructure and investing in human capital is delivering measurable, sustainable impact.
As we look ahead to the Summer Edition, the state remains focused on unlocking new possibilities and shaping a tech-driven future for Kwara’s youth.
