The Kwara State Government has commenced the 2026 Summer Edition of the Kwara Coding and Digital Literacy Programme, reaffirming its commitment to equipping young people with the digital skills required to thrive in today’s technology-driven world. The initiative, coordinated by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Digital Innovations, resumed on Monday, August 3, 2026, across participating public schools in the state as students continued their digital learning journey. The opening day featured a blend of revision and practical learning sessions, allowing participants to strengthen previously acquired knowledge while progressing into more advanced concepts. Across the various centres, students were introduced to Python programming and web development using HTML, CSS and Bootstrap. Introductory sessions on Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a coding assistant, and the fundamentals of Frontend Development were also delivered, while revision classes covered Microsoft Excel for data analysis, typing speed improvement, and previously taught digital literacy concepts according to participants’ level of learning.
The sessions were facilitated by trained instructors who guided participants through interactive classroom activities, encouraging critical thinking, creativity, and hands-on problem-solving. Students also explored the growing role of Artificial Intelligence as a learning and coding assistant, gaining practical insights into how emerging technologies are transforming education and the workplace. The Summer Edition builds on the remarkable progress recorded since the programme was first launched in 2024. The inaugural edition benefitted about 700 students across six training centres, laying the foundation for what has become one of the state’s flagship digital education initiatives.
Building on the success of the pilot, the programme witnessed a major expansion in 2025 when it was integrated into the academic calendar of public secondary schools across Kwara State. The expansion reached 54 public schools spread across the 16 Local Government Areas, while the Summer Edition was also sustained to provide additional learning opportunities. Through this large-scale expansion, over 5,800 students were immersed in coding, digital literacy, innovation thinking, and emerging technologies, making it one of the most impactful government-led digital skills programmes in Nigeria. The 2026 Summer Edition marks the third edition of the summer programme and is currently taking place across participating public schools in the state. It provides returning participants with the opportunity to deepen their understanding of digital concepts through a structured curriculum that combines classroom instruction with practical, project-based learning. As the weeks progress, students will continue to develop the technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills required to thrive in an increasingly digital world.
The six-week programme will continue with progressively advanced modules, practical coding exercises, collaborative learning experiences, and innovation challenges, culminating in a Grand Project Exhibition where participants will showcase innovative solutions developed throughout the training. Since its inception, the Kwara Coding and Digital Literacy Programme has attracted widespread recognition and commendation from education stakeholders, technology experts, development partners, and innovation ecosystem leaders within Kwara State, across Nigeria, and internationally. The programme has become a reference point for how governments can strategically invest in digital education and prepare young people for the opportunities of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
