Kwara State Empowers Students with Digital Skills as Top Officials Monitor Programme Implementation.
The Kwara State Government has successfully concluded the first week of the Summer Holiday Edition of the Kwara Coding and Digital Literacy Programme, marking a strong start in equipping young learners with essential digital skills. The initiative, spearheaded by the Office of the Special Assistant on Digital Innovation, commenced on Monday, August 4, 2025, with a focus on Coding and Innovation Thinking, transforming students from passive tech users to active creators.
During the opening week, students across participating schools engaged in structured training sessions covering foundational aspects of web development and programming. The sessions blended theory and practical exercises, allowing students to build basic web pages and grasp core programming concepts—laying a solid groundwork for more advanced modules in the coming weeks.
In a significant move to assess the programme’s impact, a delegation comprising Commissioners for Business, Innovation, and Technology, Hon. Damilola Yusuf-Adelodun, Housing and Urban Development, Dr. Segun Ogunsola, and Social Development, Hajiya Mariam Nnafatima Imam, PhD visited participating schools in Edu and Isin Local Government Areas. The visit provided the team with a firsthand look at the students’ learning progress and allowed for an inspection of ICT facilities to ensure optimal learning conditions.
The commissioners interacted with both instructors and students, observing live coding sessions. They commended the enthusiasm of participants and the dedication of trainers, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to expanding digital literacy across Kwara.
According to the Special Assistant on Digital Innovation to the Kwara State Governor, Hon. Ishola Kayode, the Kwara Coding and Digital Literacy Programme is a strategic investment by the state government to equip young people with future-ready skills, foster innovation, and bridge the digital divide across communities. He noted that the initiative is part of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s commitment to building a tech-driven economy by preparing students—especially in public schools—for global opportunities in technology, entrepreneurship, and digital enterprise. “We’re not just teaching code; we’re unlocking creativity, boosting employability, and laying the foundation for a more inclusive and prosperous digital future for Kwara,” he said.
A joint monitoring team, including representatives from the Senatorial supervisory team, Ministry of Education, and Ministry of Business Innovation and Technology, also conducted inspections across multiple centres. Feedback highlighted the effective delivery of instructors and the eagerness of students, signaling a promising trajectory for the initiative.
The Kwara State Government extends its gratitude to all instructors, school administrators, and stakeholders for their role in ensuring a seamless and impactful launch.
In coming weeks, students will progress to more programming concepts, master app development techniques, and engage with cutting-edge digital innovation. This comprehensive training will equip Kwara’s youth with valuable technological competencies, positioning them to excel in our increasingly digital world and access rewarding career opportunities in the tech sector.
